The board approved full construction for the TTUHSC Lubbock 5B West Research Lab Innovation Project, accepting the guaranteed maximum price (GMP) from the construction manager at risk and increasing the total project budget to $11,000,000.
Mr. Breedlove explained the project converts roughly 14,235 square feet of fifth‑floor space into flexible BSL‑2 and BSL‑2+ research labs with movable casework and quick hookups in the ceiling. The design emphasizes mechanical, electrical and plumbing reconfiguration to allow multiple lab layouts and mobile furniture, with roughly 88 ceiling quick connects planned to enable rapid reconfiguration.
The recommendation included waiving the use of a Centricity agent (in‑house delivery), waiving board‑directed landscape enhancement and public art fees, and amending the construction manager at risk agreement. Funding will come through the revenue financing system and be repaid with CCAP funds.
The motion to accept the GMP and authorize the revised budget passed unanimously in committee.
