Classified employees bargaining underway; OSEA sessions to be livestreamed, BEA substitutes to bargain April 2

Lindsey Ray, president of the Beaverton Education Association and a high-school math teacher, urged the board to support transparency and accountability as the district and unions negotiate. "When this contract renewal is done without that robust discussion and evidence to show progress on those goals, it erodes the trust of our community and our staff," Ray said during public comment on March 11.
Kirsty Stackman, president of OSEA chapter 48 and a roving paraeducator in special education, thanked collaborators and reported bargaining developments. Stackman said OSEA and the district had agreed to livestream bargaining sessions and to post recordings to improve accessibility for staff and the public. She said OSEA's next bargaining session had been canceled on March 17 for logistics reasons and that bargaining would resume April 2 (Stacksman said OSEA field staff reassignment had required adjustments).
District staff and HR reported separately that the district had reached a settlement with OSEA for the current year and that the BEA teacher contract is in place through June 2027; Susan Rodriguez (chief human resources officer) later said the OSEA current contract term expires in June 2025 and the district had opened successor bargaining in February.
Board members recognized classified staff during public comment and thanked OSEA and BEA leaders for their work. No formal board action on bargaining terms occurred at the meeting; the public comment focused on appreciation and on calls for transparency in negotiations.
