Regents approve 2024 teacher and staff awards; consent agenda adopted

The Texas State University System Board of Regents approved three 2024 Regents Teacher Awards and two Regents Staff Excellence Awards and adopted the consent agenda during its Feb. 14 quarterly meeting.

The Foundation’s executive director, Mike Winemute, introduced the teacher and staff award recipients and presented resolutions. A motion to confer the Regents Teacher Award on Dr. Elizabeth K. Eager, Dr. Jennifer Miller Ray and Dr. Cindy Royal was moved by Regent Flores, seconded by Regent Gordy and approved by voice vote.

Later, a motion to confer the Regents Staff Excellence Awards on Leslie Perkins and William (Bill) Tidwell was moved by Regent Long, seconded (not specified in the record) and approved by voice vote.

The board then approved the consent agenda. A motion to approve the consent agenda was made from the chair’s bench and seconded by Regent Scott; the motion passed by voice vote.

Winemute also gave a TSUS Foundation update: the Foundation awarded 13 Edmund Kempel scholarships totaling $65,000 (the Kempel scholarship is $5,000 per award), $7,500 in Fernando Gomez scholarship awards at Sam Houston State University, and reported the end-of-quarter investment portfolio at approximately $7,100,000. Winemute said the operating fund portion of the portfolio was about $6,100,000, with the remainder in three dedicated funds; he reported an 11.5% gain for the operating fund on the year and a five-year average return of about 7%.
