Beaverton parent urges action on Beaver Acres overcrowding; district bond plan includes cafeteria addition

Parent Callie Entz told the board that Beaver Acres Elementary, which she described as a Title I site with more than 800 students, is overcrowded and that crowding is affecting learning and student safety. "ELD groups and speech are literally taught in the halls, sometimes while sitting on the floor," Entz said during public comment on March 11. She asked the district to consider boundary changes or other remedies for the coming school year.
Entz said the school took "a big chunk of El Monica" in a boundary change about six years ago and that Beaver Acres' lunch lines are long and some recess groups reach about 40 children, making supervision difficult.
Later in the meeting Aaron Boyle, the district facilities administrator, told the board the bond program includes a cafeteria addition for Beaver Acres. Boyle said the project is in design planning and that major construction is not scheduled until the 2026 calendar year: "We're starting it probably, like, winter-ish 2026... it'll start early 2026" (design and permitting to precede construction). He added that the Back-of-building cafeteria will free up current cafeteria space to be converted to classroom use.
Board members acknowledged the parent's concerns and asked for continued updates on capacity planning and on scheduling for the planned cafeteria project.
