OSEA bargaining representatives proposed adding contract language requiring prompt correction of payroll underpayments when the district is responsible.
Union negotiators asked the district to follow statutory deadlines for underpayments: when an underpayment is less than 5% of an employee's gross wages, the union proposed paying the correction on the next regular payday; when the underpayment exceeds 5% of gross wages, the union proposed payment within three business days after confirmation of the error. "We felt like it was really important for a lot of our classified employees," one union presenter said, noting the hardship of monthly pay schedules for lower-paid staff.
District negotiators said they appreciated the proposal and that they would review the article along with other outstanding items ahead of the next bargaining date. No formal change was adopted at the session.
Union negotiators emphasized they were not seeking the three-day remedy for minor clerical items such as late mileage forms; rather, they said the proposal targets more substantial payroll mistakes that create financial hardship for employees.
Negotiators agreed to continue discussing the article in follow-up sessions.
