School board adopts 2025–26 district calendar after community survey; classified in‑service day restored

The Tigard-Tualatin School Board voted to adopt the district calendar for the 2025–26 school year at its March 11 regular meeting, approving the version the district called “draft 2.” Board members said the district received nearly 1,700 survey responses from staff, parents and community members and that the feedback strongly supported the calendar adjustments.
Key elements of the adopted calendar include: maintaining the district’s historical total of 171 student school days; moving planning and in‑service days to Fridays and Mondays where possible to reduce mid‑week disruptions; restoring a dedicated classified‑staff professional development day (a preference returned to from pre‑pandemic practice); and several multi‑day weekends placed throughout the year. The packet also corrected a graduation‑date conflict for TTVA (the district’s virtual academy) so it would not overlap with Creekside Community High School’s ceremony.
Board members noted the calendar is the same length as prior years and recognized the collaborative process with licensed and classified unions, administrators and a broad community survey. Director Zerschmid moved to approve the calendar and Director Miles seconded the motion; the chair called for a choral vote and the motion carried.
The board also cautioned families about Thanksgiving scheduling: the calendar does not provide the entire week of Thanksgiving off for students, so families should not plan week‑long vacations during that period.
