The Portland Public Schools Board adopted resolution 7053 declaring March 4–7, 2025 as Classified and Non‑Represented Employee Appreciation Week and read a years‑of‑service list that included employees with five‑year milestones and several staff with four decades of service.
Superintendent Armstrong introduced the resolution and Sharon Reese, the district’s chief of human resources, read the years‑of‑service list. Reese identified four employees who had reached 40 years of service: Alicia Fucker (IT enterprise applications), Beverly Greg (nutrition services lead at Vernon), Bruce Kraussert (electronics technician, maintenance services) and Mary Collins (educational assistant in PK early learners). The board and audience applauded the honorees.
The board approved resolution 7053 by a roll‑call-style voice vote; the clerk recorded the board vote as 6‑0 and noted the student representative indicated an unofficial yes.
Why it matters: Classified and non‑represented staff—bus drivers, custodians, nutrition workers, secretaries and many others—provide day‑to‑day operational support in every school building. The board’s proclamation is an annual acknowledgment and part of the district’s formal recognition programs.
What’s next: The district will celebrate honorees and hold the Torch Awards ceremony in March to recognize employee contributions.
