Construction on Career Innovation Center and four middle schools reported on schedule, district says

Facilities staff reported progress on multiple building projects during the March work session and said weather delays in February have been largely recovered.
Steve, a facilities staff member presenting the construction update, said contractors Newkirk Novak and JE Dunn were keeping projects on schedule after winter slowdowns and that the Career Innovation Center had advanced steel work and would receive sod and finish landscaping in coming weeks. Steve said areas used for throwing events (shot put/discus) will receive sidewalks and spectator viewing areas and that the back side steel work is nearly to the gym area.
District timelines presented by staff included Bridal Hill targeted for substantial completion around July 3 with furniture moves by July 31; Delta Woods and the other middle schools have roofs on and are sealed, with interior work such as ductwork and drywall in progress. Moreland Ridge and Paul Kinder had slabs and concrete poured with target completion and furniture‑install windows in mid to late July; staff said Paul Kinder will gain approximately 54 new parking spots on its south side when work concludes.
William Gates was scheduled for abatement beginning June 4 with classrooms projected complete by June 30 and office/counseling staff moving back in by July 23. Franklin Smith and other sites will require abatement and dedicated work after students leave; Franklin Smith’s abatement and front‑office work was estimated to take place in early June, with a target occupancy date in August ahead of teacher return.
James Walker staff offices were reported to move temporarily into a new art room over spring break to allow abatement in the school’s front office area; district staff said library and office spaces at several sites are on schedules that should permit furniture moves in July. Staff emphasized the summer will be “all hands on deck” to complete punch‑list items and to ready spaces for students and teachers in August.
No changes to contracted timelines were reported at the meeting; staff said they would continue to monitor weather impacts and provide updates to the board as work progresses.
