Catskill High students plan May 31 triathlon, raffle to benefit local women's league and school trip

Students from the Catskill High School Business Club presented their plans for the 17th annual Catskill Spring Rush Triathlon and a Sprint 5K, to be held on May 31, 2025. The event will include a 5K run, a 15K bike ride and a kayak race on Casco Creek; the Sprint 5K offers a shorter option.

"My name is Wesley Cuckoo, and I am a student from the Catskill High School Business Club. We're here to present our seventeenth annual Catskill Spring Wreath Triathlon and Sprint 5 k. Taking place on 05/31/2025," said Wesley Cuckoo during the county committee meeting. Students said the event is entirely student-run and aims to bring athletes, families and the community together.

Colin Shook told the committee the race will start and finish at Casco Middle School and that the event is dedicated this year to a teacher identified as Mrs. Schindler; "a portion of our proceeds will be donated to the in county women's league to support local families affected by cancer," the students said. The club also plans a raffle for an electric bike donated by Casco Bike Supply; tickets were described in the presentation as $10 each or five for $40. Students said funds will also help support their annual New York City business trip.

Organizers said they have reached out to sponsors and will promote the event through county tourism and social channels. Committee members offered to help promote the event on county social media and several legislators and staff said they would volunteer or attend.

No formal county funding or permits were recorded at the meeting; the presentation functioned as an informational request for promotional support and community partnerships.
