He proposed the commission could also administer a regranting program to local historical societies and cultural groups.
Legislators discussed school involvement, banners and flags for schools, and partnering with local historical societies and tourism to amplify events. Some members urged using the commission to create durable, interpretive assets rather than one-off tourist merchandise.
The resolution establishing the commission was approved by voice vote at the meeting; members indicated support to move forward with the form of the resolution and refine membership and scope as planning proceeds. Next steps discussed include finalizing commission membership, developing a spending plan for markers or regrants, and scheduling meetings in advance of April commemorations.
