Nonresident organizer pitches firefighter STEM camp for teens to Albany council

"We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit... our goal is to get 13 to 19 year old boys and girls to consider firefighting as a career," Barron said, describing a two‑day STEM camp planned for up to 30 participants. He said day one would provide CPR and first‑aid certification and day two would include five firefighter skill stations (examples cited: use of hydraulic rescue tools, ventilation and hydrant operations).
Barron said he preferred to hold the camp in Linn County at Tangent Fire and Rescue because Albany currently lacks a training ground; he offered a calendar and said he would provide a copy to Mayor Johnson. He said the nonprofit’s aim is outreach to youth who have not traditionally considered firefighting careers.
