School board approves Moorhead High choir trip to Los Angeles in January 2026

The trip will include performances in the Los Angeles area, a clinic with a collegiate professor, a visit to Universal Studios, sightseeing including time at the beach, and attendance at a Broadway-style performance. The proposal estimated the cost at just under $2,000 per student, which may vary depending on rooming and flight prices.
Kaylee Gross, a staff member who presented the proposal, said the trip will be offered to all students in concert choir and chorale (about 80 students) and that roughly 40 to 50 students typically participate based on past trips. Gross described planned fundraising, including coupon-book and donation-based campaigns, to make the trip more affordable for students.
Board members asked about scheduling conflicts with other activities that could fall during the school week. Gross said the athletics/activities director had not finalized next year’s winter schedule but that past trips had generated few conflicts; she said the district attempts to minimize overlaps where possible. No formal scheduling guarantee was made.
A motion to approve the request was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote; the board did not record individual roll-call votes in the transcript.
The board wished the students well after the vote and the motion carried by voice vote.
