Legislature sets public hearing on DMV user fee, debates mortgage tax administrative increase and salary fixes

The Cayuga County Legislature discussed multiple revenue and personnel items, set a public hearing on a proposed DMV user fee local law, approved an administrative fee adjustment for mortgage recordings, and agreed to split a proposed salary-local-law into two separate items so the county attorney’s salary and Board of Elections commissioners’ salaries can be considered individually.

A representative of the County Clerk’s Office (identified in the meeting as Jonathan) told legislators the county had received notice that the prior county clerk, Mr. Scanlon, had resigned effective immediately. Jonathan said he contacted the governor’s office about any appointment timeline and arranged technical assistance from the Oswego County Clerk’s Office while the county clerk’s office addresses immediate operational needs.

Jonathan then described a proposed local law to permit Cayuga County to charge a user fee for motor-vehicle registrations under state authority.
