Allegany County legislators recognize Board of Elections for 2024 election work

The Allegany County Board of Legislators formally recognized the Allegany County Board of Elections and its staff during its Feb. 27 meeting, thanking election commissioners, clerks and technicians for work during the 2024 election cycle.

Chairman W. Brook Harris, chairman of the Allegany County Board of Legislators, praised the elections team for meeting the demands of recent election years and said the staff’s work under pressure stood out. "The way that this team and all the inspectors who couldn't join us today, met the challenges that were faced on the general election day was, to me, really quite incredible," Harris said.

Elections Commissioner Mike McCormick thanked the board for the recognition and for recent equipment and support. "So thanks for the recognition. We appreciate it," McCormick said. McCormick also named deputy commissioners Barbara Broughton and Marcy Crawford, clerks Susie Thomas and Mary Persuti, and technicians Tim Voss and Lynn Thompson as key staff supporting the office.

Harris and the commissioners noted the scale of local operations: the elections office trains poll workers (the commissioners referenced about 60 poll workers) and manages multiple poll sites during election cycles. The board said certificates of appreciation would be prepared for individual staff and deputies who could not attend the meeting.

The recognition took place before the meeting opened the public comment period; no public speakers addressed the board during that segment.
