Sussex Academy boys soccer team honored in House after state championship treble

The Delaware House recognized Sussex Academy's boys soccer team on March 13 after the team won the Henlopen South division, the Henlopen championship and the Division II state tournament, a 'treble' noted by legislators.
Representative Jones Giltner brought the Sussex Academy boys soccer team into the chamber to recognize the team's recent championships.
"Kudos to them," Jones Giltner said, noting the team won the Henlopen South division, the Henlopen championship and the Division II state tournament over Saint Andrews. She explained that winning those three trophies is known in soccer as a "treble" and said the accomplishment is the second time since 1995 that a public school has won back-to-back titles in that combination.
The team — from Sussex Academy in Georgetown with players from surrounding communities — stood in the chamber as members recognized the achievement. As is House tradition, players were asked individually to state their name, grade and position for the permanent record; goalkeeper CJ Norton identified himself as a 12th-grade goalkeeper.
Coach Robert Deena Jr. and the players received applause from members. The House proceeded with other business after the recognition.
