House clears resolution recognizing Ramadan; Delaware Muslims honored in chamber

Representative Wilson Anton presented and the House cleared House Concurrent Resolution Number 14 recognizing the holy month of Ramadan and the Muslim residents of Delaware.
Representative Wilson Anton, state representative, told colleagues the month "is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity," and read from the text describing the obligation and exemptions for fasting. He said Ramadan is "a time of increased spirituality, generosity, and conscientiousness" and noted that members of the Muslim community had traveled from across the state to join the chamber.
The resolution was read on third and final reading by title only and carried by a voice vote. "All in favor of House Concurrent Resolution number 14, please signify by saying aye," the clerk said; the ayes were recorded and the resolution was cleared to pass the House.
Anton thanked faculty and staff who helped make workplaces and classrooms inclusive during the observance and asked those present to recognize members of the Delaware Muslim community in the gallery. Several guests stood as the chamber acknowledged them; Anton closed by offering the traditional greeting, "Ramadan Mubarak."
