Butler said crews logged roughly 120 staff hours over two days preparing arenas and facilities for the recent rodeo, underscoring the labor involved in large city events. He reported the Subers And Shadows drainage project has finished concrete work and sidewalks should reopen pending final curing; remaining finish‑work is scheduled next week. "All of the drainage work, all the sidewalks are done," Butler said.
Staff installed a new play structure at the Jamie Sullivan Memorial Park (referred to in the meeting as Jamie Sullivan Park) and began demolition of showers at the Multi‑Gen Center (MGC). Butler said the MGC shower demolition will move to concrete socketing and pouring in the coming week and that the project could continue into May depending on construction schedules.
Butler also said staff are transitioning flower displays to summer annuals, with a public giveaway event planned for April 5 (members of the public can pick up annuals at the focal point event). He reported that materials for area light pole replacements at SSP have been ordered, with lead times for some fixture heads extending schedules; staff hope to begin pole removal and replacements by mid‑month and finish as remaining heads arrive.
Commissioners asked whether the small play structure would receive shade; Butler said space and safety standards limit additional shade installations for that small structure, but an existing larger shade donated by Apache Greyhound Park covers the large structure nearby.
Butler emphasized the drainage improvements are part of the Land and Water Conservation Fund grant and that the ADA accessibility improvements to the sidewalks will make the park easier to navigate for strollers and wheelchairs during major events.
