Mayor Sprouse delivers 2025 State of the City; planning director Patsy Christie to depart March 31

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — Mayor Sprouse delivered the 2025 State of the City address at the Feb. 25 Springdale City Council meeting, opening with a report of a record sales-tax month and summarizing progress on bonds, parks, downtown projects and capital improvements.
“We just got the numbers — we had our largest sales-tax month in history,” Mayor Sprouse told the council, citing a roughly 9.6% increase in the December comparison to 2023. He highlighted ongoing bond-funded projects including turf field improvements, the senior center, library addition and road projects, and described downtown development and new residential units.
Near the end of his remarks the mayor announced a personnel change: Patsy Christie, the city’s director of planning and community development, has submitted her resignation effective March 31. The mayor said he has already identified an internal successor and said Sharon (staff member) is his immediate pick to succeed Christie.
“Patsy has submitted her resignation. She believes that’s time. Her resignation will be effective March 31,” Sprouse said. “Sharon is — she was my pick immediately to succeed Patsy.”
The mayor emphasized regional infrastructure priorities — including a long-term vision for County Line Road as another east-west corridor — and said city staff will pursue state and federal funding should the Air National Guard decide to locate operations in Springdale.
Patsy Christie did not speak at length in the public address beyond staff presentations earlier in the meeting; the mayor said he will consult with Christie regarding regional boards and other positions she may wish to retain after leaving the city post.
Ending: The mayor closed by thanking staff and council members; Christie’s departure will be effective March 31 and the council and staff will proceed with succession planning and regional representation appointments.
