City staff asked the Sunnyside City Planning Commission on Tuesday to consider serving as, or supplying members to, a newly required climate resiliency policy advisory panel that the state’s guidance attaches to an element of the city’s comprehensive plan.
Derek, the city staff liaison, told commissioners the Department of Commerce requires a separate advisory body for the climate-resiliency element and that Sunnyside has not yet seated enough members. “We need to get this seated because we need to actually get things done,” Derek said. He described two choices: the planning commission could serve as that advisory panel (with additional appointed members as needed), or the city could continue the separate appointment process; he said staff will research the exact steps required to make either option official.
