The McLean County Board on March 13 proclaimed March 18, 2025, as National Ag Day in McLean County and adopted a resolution expressing the county’s support for agriculture and its economic role. The board also recognized March as Music in Our Schools Month, highlighting local school music programs and the educational benefits of music instruction.
The agricultural resolution recited county and state statistics in its preamble, including the numbers cited during the presentation: Illinois has more than 71,000 farms, most family owned; agriculture represents the county’s largest land use and supports thousands of jobs, the text said. Anna Ziegler, identified in the meeting as the McLean County Farm Bureau manager, attended and was recognized by the board along with Darren Davis.
The music proclamation, presented by Member Corey Byrne, noted that March is nationally observed as Music in Our Schools Month and cited the Every Student Succeeds Act’s inclusion of music as part of a well-rounded education. Representatives from six elementary schools — Stevenson, Sheridan, Northpointe, Towanda, Prairie Land and Parkside — performed or were acknowledged at the meeting.
Both proclamations were presented as resolutions and recorded in the meeting’s packet; the board adopted the language during the meeting.
Ending
Board members thanked local educators and farmers for their contributions to county life; the meeting’s consent and committee actions followed the ceremonial recognitions.
