Cumberland schools report music, speech and career successes; CNA students receive offers

Dr. Jim said the Cumberland High and middle school bands performed at Moffitt University; the concert band (sixth grade) earned an "excellent" rating and the Cumberland Wind Ensemble (grades 7—12) earned a "superior" rating. He reported that more than 32 colleges attended a recent college fair and that senior Archie Engle won a $1,000 scholarship. The speech team placed first at a 2025 super-regional event at Matthews High School; every competitor the district sent qualified for state competition. Dr. Jim named several student winners and placements in categories including original oratory, storytelling, humorous interpretation and poetry.
On vocational outcomes, Dr. Jim said CNA students who attended a career event at the Estes Center received job offers; three CNA students accepted positions and were working on weekends. He also noted a recent John Robertson historical marker ceremony in which students participated and community events such as Operation Glass Slipper, where donated prom dresses were distributed to students.
Dr. Jim reiterated the schools' role in staffing and volunteer recruitment for the county-hosted RAM Area Medical Clinic March 29—March 30 at Cumberland High School and thanked the board for its support of the school division.
