The Ohio Senate met in Columbus on Tuesday, March 11, and gave first consideration to two bills, recorded presidential appointments to two state boards and agreed without objection to adjourn until March 18 at 9:30 a.m.
Senate Bill 145 was introduced for first consideration as a measure “to amend sections of the revised code to rename the department of development to the department of housing and development and to otherwise modify the law relating to housing.” The bill was introduced under first consideration; no final vote on passage was recorded during the March 11 session. The bill was identified on the floor as Senate Bill 145 and was associated in remarks with “senator Reynolds, Craig and others.”
Senate Bill 146 was introduced for first consideration “to enact section of the revised code to codify the elements of the common law cause of action for piercing and corporate veil.” On the floor the measure was announced as Senate Bill 146 and was tied to “senators Gavron and Timken” during introduction. Like SB 145, SB 146 was given first consideration and no final passage vote was recorded at the March 11 meeting.
The Senate president announced two appointments under provisions of the Revised Code. Pursuant to a named section of the Revised Code, the president appointed Senator Manchester and Senator Hicks Hudson to serve on the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund Board. Separately, under another cited section of the Revised Code, the president appointed Senator Manning to serve on the Ohio Access to Justice Foundation Board for the 136th General Assembly.
At the opening of the March 11 session the journal of the previous day was presented and, “without objection,” the journal was agreed to with a point of personal privilege recorded on the floor.
Near the close of the brief session Senator Reineke moved the following on the floor: “I move that the senate having completed its business adjourn until Tuesday, March 18 at 09:30AM.” The motion was agreed to without objection and the Senate adjourned.
The Senate’s floor statements on March 11 included a ceremonial recognition of visitors during the session; those remarks were not legislative actions. The items noted above were announced on the floor as part of the March 11 session; no committee referrals, committee votes, or final passage votes on the two bills were recorded in the on-the-floor remarks captured in the session transcript.
