Court approves low-cost revision to fire-equipment bid and awards contract

Chief John Ward recommended the court approve a revised purchase from Vocal Pool Fire Equipment after bids came in higher than budgeted and two vendors submitted incomplete bids. "Our recommendation would be to go with Vocal Pool Fire Equipment," Ward said, and he asked the court for approval "in the amount of $3.22 $9.27," which he said would fit within the department’s budget and come from the special projects account.
The court’s approval followed discussion about differences among bids and whether certain hose, nozzles and couplings offered by some bidders would be interchangeable. Ward described a barcode option for hose tracking as an optional feature that the department does not plan to buy; the department will number hose by manufacturer and log tests manually.
Magistrate Rick Hostetler moved to approve the purchase and Rob Jones seconded the motion. A voice vote passed the motion.
Ward publicly thanked Battalion Chief Adam White and the department team for preparing bid specifications and doing background work ahead of the solicitation. Court members noted the bid process produced multiple offers and that the recommended vendor matched needed specifications after quantities were adjusted.
The county will fund the purchase from the fire department’s special projects account; staff said the recommended price falls within the department’s available budget.
