Wellington Parks and Recreation staff updated the PROS Advisory Board on event logistics at the March 12 meeting, including plans for the St. Patrick’s Day activities, parade staging and a summer events calendar.
Staff said the 0.5K fun run scheduled for the St. Patrick’s Day morning has about 70 registrants and could reach as many as 150 once day‑of registrations are included; volunteers are needed at the start/finish, a midway water station and for day‑of registration. Event staff asked for help moving cones after the run so the parade can stage on schedule.
Staff described parade logistics: trucks and floats will stage early (staff suggested an 8 a.m. staging time), vendors open at 11 a.m., and the vendor village will remain until mid‑afternoon. Organizers are planning a beer garden that requires fencing and truck staging. One event organizer described a plan to drive a decorated truck as a parade platform, use a quiet inverter generator on the bumper to power a speaker and microphone, and have singers and walkers accompany the truck during the procession.
Town staff also reviewed the summer schedule: Brewfest (with a portion of sponsorship proceeds being proposed for the Veterans Garden), movies‑in‑the‑park evenings, Kids to Parks Day at multiple parks and a Fourth of July program that will include staff stationed at the fireworks area for crowd and restroom support. Staff said parking and alley access will be adjusted for event safety and that staging maps will be circulated before events.
Staff asked PROS members and volunteers to help with setup, vendor support and handing out materials during high‑attended events. Practical items discussed included generator choices for parade sound, a staging area plan behind shops for float assembly, and temporary staffing at fireworks to respond to restroom and crowd needs.
Staff said additional maps and promotional materials will be made available and encouraged board members and community partners to distribute them at events.
