City staff updated the Palatka City Commission on March 13 about a proposed LED sign to replace an existing sign near City Hall. Staff said they had reviewed city ordinances, FDOT guidance and multiple vendor quotes.
According to the presentation, the proposed sign's dimensions are about 15 feet by 15 feet, with a planned display area that would comply with the city ordinance’s square‑foot limits (staff referenced a 34‑ to 36‑square‑foot allowance). The planned sign height is about 35 feet, staff said.
Staff also said FDOT indicated the sign would not require a permit because it sits outside the state right‑of‑way. Electrical service at the site is available, which reduced site‑work cost concerns, staff said. Procurement staff reported receiving multiple quotations and noted that purchases above approximately $25,000 would ordinarily require a competitive solicitation.
Commissioners noted the sign could provide space for county messages as well as city messaging. Staff said they had checked ordinance compliance and safety issues and were working through final pricing and design details.
