Lewisburg Area SD Board recognizes winter athletes and coaches

The Lewisburg Area School District Board of Education recognized winter-season athletes and coaches during its March meeting, highlighting postseason qualifiers and individual achievements across several sports.
Athletic Director Greg Wetzel opened the recognition segment and summarized winter results. Bowling qualified representatives for regional competition; the boys varsity team finished with a losing record but the program fielded both boys and girls squads. The swim team was competing in the state tournament the night of the meeting; coaches Mason Waterman and Madison Lambert had five swimmers qualify for states, the board was told. Wetzel noted freshman Colin Shannon swam the 500 and other athletes placed in preliminary events; none advanced to state finals.
Wrestling coach Justin Michaels and wrestler Landon Wagner were singled out for postseason success. Wagner won the Northeast Regional championship to qualify for the PIAA state tournament and placed eighth at states; the board heard he also recorded his 100th career win at the event. Michaels and teammates Nolan Althaw and Chase Wenrick placed at sectional and district events and three wrestlers qualified to regionals. Wetzel and Michaels also noted multiple wrestlers who met academic and athletic criteria for all‑district and all‑state academic recognition.
Girls basketball coach Brent Sample described a 19–7 season that included a third-place district finish and a state‑tournament appearance. He and players thanked school administration, staff and the community for home‑game support. Players and coaches praised athletic director Greg Wetzel and team staff for their roles this season.
Wetzel closed with a spring‑sports preview: about 219 high‑school athletes had signed up for spring sports and 92 middle‑schoolers (seventh and eighth grade) were participating in field hockey and soccer.
Board members and administrators praised the students' competitive results and the community support that sustained team travel and participation.
