District expands athletics offerings — adds JV flag football and appoints new boys varsity soccer coach

Jamie Block, director of athletics and physical education, told the board March 12 that the district will add a JV flag-football team this spring after a successful inaugural season and that the varsity coaching staff is being increased to support the new squad. Flag football has grown in Section 1 and has state-level championships; Block said the program originally ran with roughly 50 students and the district expects JV participation to be 12–18 players.
Block also announced a coaching appointment for boys varsity soccer: an in-house teacher and longtime coach, Chris, was recommended for the position. Block described Chris as a coach with extensive experience in New York City and strong ties to local youth soccer programs. "He's used to some late nights and playing in Brooklyn and stuff...he's gonna be a great addition to our staff," Block said.
On operations, Block walked through equipment and lease cycles, noting some larger purchases (field clocks, lacrosse goals) and that officials’ costs and BOCES-contracted services are the biggest recurring expenses. He outlined a device-refresh/uniform replacement cadence of roughly three to five years for uniforms and said the booster club provides substantial support for programs and events.
No formal votes were taken on athletics items at the March 12 meeting; the board moved forward with an agenda appointment for the new soccer coach so the coach can begin pre-season work.
