During audience comments at the March 12, 2025 Fond du Lac City Council meeting, resident Laura DeGaulier urged the council to resume action on the North Main Street corridor development plan and to promote the area to potential developers.
DeGaulier said the corridor plan—designed by a consultant with input gathered via an online survey and at least one public meeting—has sat idle for approximately four months since it was last on the council agenda. She asked the council to "not allow [the plans] to gather dust" and to explore ways to move the plan toward implementation.
Specifically, DeGaulier recommended marketing the North Main Street area online as an "opportunity site," citing the city’s housing study as support. She also noted the site’s history as a blighted area and said that, if eligible, a tax incremental financing (TIF) district should be established to attract developers.
DeGaulier referenced Councilmember Tom Schussler's earlier mention of the item and asked the council to work with community members and the consultant to make the plan a reality. She closed by saying the public’s ideas should be used and thanked the council for the opportunity to speak.
The public comment did not result in immediate council action during the March 12 meeting; the record shows the council moved on to scheduled action items after audience comments.
