County describes LED lighting, kitchen and flooring upgrades at downtown courthouse

Facilities staff reported progress on several maintenance and upgrade projects at the downtown courthouse, including LED lighting replacements, kitchen cabinetry and countertop installation for the state's attorney, and vinyl flooring work in county offices.

“We're gonna try to put a little yellow on the pad for him. New cages downstairs. So looks good, all the power is ready to go,” said one speaker describing completed work in the basement equipment area. Facilities staff also said they replaced older mercury‑vapor fixtures with new LED fixtures and addressed damaged ductwork and paint peeling in the basement.

On the second floor, staff said they installed new handmade cabinets, countertops, sinks and flooring in a small kitchen area for the State's Attorney to improve privacy and functionality. “They were handmade. So you got a bunch of these little kitchen nets up there all around and they're all rotted out, leaking, falling apart. They've never been taken care of. So it turned out real good,” a facilities speaker said.

Vinyl flooring replacement was reported to be underway in one office with the speaker saying the floor would be completed the following Monday; staff noted that three pedestals under an air conditioning unit were found to be rotted when the floor was removed and said that discovery justified the timing of the work.

Why it matters: These facility upgrades affect county employees, court operations and visitors who use courthouse spaces daily. Some repairs revealed additional structural concerns that will require follow‑up work.

Next steps: Vinyl flooring installation to be completed and staff will coordinate moving personnel back into renovated areas after IT racks and other work around the racks are completed; outstanding invoices for glazing and AHU work were noted as already paid or awaiting checks.
