City Manager reported 14 applicants applied to fill a vacant council seat and recommended interview dates of April 2 and 3 starting at 5:30 p.m. for 20–25 minute interviews; earlier in the meeting the council approved a motion to excuse Mayor Pro Tem Wall from the session.
The Mountlake Terrace City Council on Thursday set procedures and tentative dates to interview 14 applicants for an open council seat and approved a motion to excuse Mayor Pro Tem Wall from the evening’s meeting.
During the City Manager’s report, staff said the application period for the open council seat closed with 14 applicants. Staff recommended scheduling interviews on April 2 and 3 beginning at 5:30 p.m. and proposed 20–25 minute interview slots so all applicants could be accommodated in two evenings. "What we would recommend is an interview period of 20 to 25 minutes for each applicant. That way, we'll be able to get through all 14 applicants in those 2 evenings and be able to make a decision at that time," the City Manager said.
Council accepted the suggested scheduling and agreed to hold a random draw at the March 20 meeting to determine interview order.
Early in the meeting a motion to excuse Mayor Pro Tem Wall was moved and seconded; the council voted by voice and the motion passed. The meeting’s public-comment period recorded no in-person, online or written comments.
