Board considers $100,000 capital project at Peter B. Quevens Elementary to replace site lighting and ceiling tiles

Facilities staff asked the Board to include a $100,000 capital project in the upcoming proposition to replace aging exterior site lighting at Peter B. Quevens Elementary and to perform limited interior ceiling tile replacements in the older wing to qualify for accelerated building aid.
Bill Schramm, director of facilities, said the site lights are largely original and have deteriorated after decades of exposure. He explained the district often combines a small amount of interior work with a site project in order to capture Building Aid through the State Education Department’s expedited review process; the district expects a typical aid ratio of about 71% on these smaller projects and expects the aid to be paid in the following year.
Schramm said the district would submit the project for SED approval and then solicit bids; he cautioned it was unlikely the work would begin that summer and estimated the work would occur in the 2025-26 school year if approved. The board approved resolutions related to that small capital project as part of the business agenda.
