Alpha Academy outlines alternative-education programs, partnerships and enrollment

The presentation emphasized why the district created a formal referral process connecting high‑school counselors and administrators to Alpha Academy: "First, you must be a student in the district to get into Alpha Academy," Miss Alfred said, to make clear how students are identified and referred. She said the program follows the district’s approved curriculum and is working toward co‑testing courses with the high school by April.
Alpha Academy’s report supplied enrollment and outcome details and described new activities. The program reported 44 students had completed coursework through Alpha to date, three of them via the Missouri Options program; current enrollment was reported as near 40–41 students. Staff said the number of seniors not on track was five but that number may change as some students regained credits after recent professional development and interventions.
The presentation highlighted partnerships and services that supplement instruction and student supports: Compass Health Network, Youth In Need (for teen parents), Preferred Family Health (a new soft‑path partnership), the University of Missouri Extension Center (greenhouse and garden support), and local civic groups including the Wharton Elks and other community patrons. Miss Alfred called out a new “Warrior Buddy” elective that places Alpha students with elementary classes at Warrior Ridge Elementary School; that program began with five students and had three active participants at the time of the report.
Staff described the PASS option as a full‑day placement for students serving long suspensions and said the Alpha schedule and curriculum will remain aligned with district requirements. The presentation also noted early implementation of PBIS (positive behavior supports) at Alpha and a strong Tier‑1 score from recent walkthroughs.
Board members responded with praise for the program’s outcomes and student success stories but did not take formal action on the report.
Alpha Academy will continue to pursue transition to an on‑campus location and to expand elective and career‑connected learning opportunities as staffing and district scheduling allow.
The report was delivered during the superintendent’s reports portion of the meeting and was followed by routine board comments and separate agenda items.
