Committee recommends concurrent resolution naming Chuck Suki North Dakota’s first state troubadour

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee recommended a do-pass on House Concurrent Resolution 3008 to designate Chuck Suki as North Dakota’s first state troubadour.
Representative Todd Porter explained the resolution follows recent statutory action to create the state troubadour position and to name Suki’s song “Dancing Dakota” the state waltz. Porter said that, by tradition, the legislature usually does not put individuals’ names in statute; this concurrent resolution accomplishes the honorary designation without altering code.
Committee members voted 7–0 on the recommendation. Senators discussed floor carriers and plans for moving the resolution to the full Senate; Senator Behm agreed to carry the resolution to the floor.
