Senate committee hears bill to designate Dec. 12 as 'Day of the Twelves' honoring Seahawks fans

On March 14 the Senate State Government, Tribal Affairs & Elections Committee heard House Bill 1759, a bill to designate December 12 as the "Day of the Twelves" in recognition of the Seattle Seahawks’ fan base, commonly called the Twelves.

Representative Rosita Mena, the bill’s sponsor, described the measure as a recognition of the social and community bonds the Seahawks and their fans create. "There are a few things that actually bring people together like a common cause," Mena said, adding that for many families the team provides a source of joy and community connection.

Multiple supporters — including leaders of Seahawkers booster clubs and local chapter representatives — told the committee the Twelves undertake extensive volunteer work throughout the year. Elise Jones, president of the Seahawkers Booster Club, said the booster organization has 39 chapters and more than 10,000 members and reported roughly 1,800 volunteer hours per chapter last year, with more than $600,000 donated systemwide.

Several chapter leaders and longtime fans said a legislatively recognized day would honor those community contributions and give fans a focal point for volunteer activities in December. Testimony included personal anecdotes connecting the date to family traditions and community outreach; several witnesses closed informally with "Go Hawks."

The committee recorded a large number of pro submissions and a smaller number of opposing non-testifier comments; the hearing closed with no final committee action recorded on the bill at the March 14 meeting.
