Senate Education Committee sends three Colorado Mesa University trustee reappointments to full Senate

At a meeting of the Colorado Senate Education Committee, the panel unanimously recommended reappointment of Allison Griffin, Lori Buck and David Foster to the Colorado Mesa University Board of Trustees and forwarded the nominations to the full Senate.
The committee heard from Colorado Mesa University President John Marshall, who described the school as “the fastest 4 year growing, fastest growing 4 year institution in the state” and reviewed the university’s mission serving first-generation, rural and low-income students.
Allison Griffin, a current trustee up for reappointment, told the committee she joined the board in 2019, filled a vacancy and was later reappointed for a four-year term. She said she has worked “30 years working in higher education, public policy” and praised CMU’s work serving first-generation and rural students. Lori (Laurie) Buck described herself as a lifelong resident of the Western Slope who values CMU’s role in broadening the local economy and supporting the region’s workforce needs. David Foster said he was honored to be considered for reappointment, described serving on CMU’s presidential search committee and noted his background as a land-use attorney who worked on a formation district related to campus expansion.
After introductions and a brief period for committee questions, Senator Marchman moved to send the nominations to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation. The committee recorded the motion and, after a roll call, approved the reappointments unanimously. Committee members who voted in the roll call included Senators Bridal, Coleman, Lundeen, Rich, Marchman and the committee chair, who all registered affirmative votes.
The reappointments move to the Senate floor for final confirmation. The committee then returned to its other agenda items.
Members of the public and committee members praised CMU’s focus on first-generation students and workforce-aligned programs during the brief confirmation hearing, and President Marshall thanked Governor Polis for making the appointments.
