Senate recognizes March 2025 as Multiple Sclerosis Week

The Michigan Senate adopted Senate Resolution 16 on March 12, 2025, designating March 2025 as Multiple Sclerosis Week.
Senator Halkoff offered the resolution and the Senate voted to adopt it without recorded opposition. Senator Roger Hauck spoke in support, describing multiple sclerosis and calling for awareness and research. "MS is a neurological disease that affects the central nervous system and causes communication issues between the brain and the rest of the body," Hauck said. "Nearly 1,000,000 people in the United States alone currently live with MS, often affecting those in the prime of their lives between the ages of 20 and 50. At this time, the cause of [the] disease is unknown and there is also no known cure."
Hauck urged colleagues to support the resolution to increase public knowledge and research attention. He also noted advocates from the National MS Society — "the Digmans," who were present in the gallery — and praised their ongoing advocacy and work on behalf of people with MS.
The resolution was approved by voice vote and ordered printed in the journal. The Senate later adjourned and will reconvene Thursday, March 13, at 10 a.m.
