Accomack County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 8, 2025 elected Supervisor Jackie Phillips of Election District 7 as chair for the 2025 county year, chose a vice chair, approved a remote participation request for a recovering supervisor and adopted a set of procedural policies and the 2025 meeting schedule.
The board unanimously allowed Supervisor Tarr to participate remotely after he said he was recovering from back surgery and confirmed his location and ability to connect. Supervisor Tarr told the board his request had been submitted in writing on Jan. 3, 2025; he answered “Yes, sir. I can.” when asked if he could hear the meeting.
The board nominated and elected Jackie Phillips to serve as chair for 2025 by voice vote after a motion and second; the meeting record shows no other nominations. Phillips, identified in the record as Supervisor Jackie Phillips of Election District 7, thanked colleagues for their support and said she was honored to serve.
The board also selected Sandra Cassandra Renida Majors as vice chair by voice vote. The new vice chair said she would assist the presiding officer as needed.
On routine governance matters the board took the following actions: it adopted a Code of Ethics “as is,” approved a slightly revised Rules and Procedures document (members said the only substantive updates were to the definitions of “meeting” and “public meeting” to conform with state law), and approved the county’s 2025 meeting calendar. Under the approved schedule regular meetings will continue on the third Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m., with work sessions, if needed, on the first Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m.
A single item on the consent agenda — a reappointment to the Planning Commission — was approved by the board; the transcript does not specify the name of the person reappointed. The meeting closed with recognition of outgoing leadership and informal remarks of thanks to former Chair Robert Crockett for his service.
