Board approves MOU to let Northampton employees attend Accomack public-safety recruit academy with tuition or in-kind payment

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 15 approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that permits Northampton County public-safety employees to attend Accomack County's Department of Public Safety recruit academy when Northampton provides tuition in advance or equivalent in-kind compensation.
County Administrator Mike Mason told the board the MOU formalizes an existing practice under which Northampton personnel have historically trained with Accomack but no written agreement ensured Accomack taxpayers were not subsidizing that training. The agreement allows for in-kind compensation such as providing qualified recruit academy instructors from Northampton to offset training costs.
A motion to approve the draft MOU was made and seconded; the board approved the MOU by voice vote. The MOU was attached to the board agenda for review, and staff had recommended approval.
Ending: County staff will execute the MOU and administer enrollments under the agreed terms.
