Board approves agreement enabling VDEM to pre-stage resources on county property during emergencies

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors approved a memorandum authorizing the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) to use specified county-owned properties during a national, state or local declaration of emergency or to prepare for an anticipated emergency event.
Sarah Dickey, Accomack County deputy coordinator for emergency management, told the board the agreement creates pre‑designated sites where VDEM can pre-stage resources or position equipment to facilitate quicker response and resource delivery during emergencies. She confirmed coordination with federal partners is possible and that staff will pursue similar coordination with federal installations when appropriate.
An emergency‑services official who works with FEMA praised the agreement as useful for operational coordination and recommended the county also coordinate with Wallops and other federal entities where relevant. The board approved the motion to adopt the agreement and thanked emergency-management staff for the work.
