Accomack board approves $150,000 derelict-building removal grant to Nanticoke Bayside Revitalization Committee

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors voted Feb. 26 to award a $150,000 derelict-building removal grant to the Nanticoke Bayside Revitalization Committee under a county Community Revitalization Fund intended to prevent neighborhood deterioration.
County staff said the board’s October 2024 ordinance created the fund and that the county invited nonprofit applications for grants of up to $150,000; $300,000 total was available. Two applications were received for the November–December 2024 application period and staff recommended awarding one grant while awaiting additional information from the other applicant.
The board’s motion approved the conditional award and directed the county attorney to prepare an agreement specifying performance periods, eligible costs, quarterly reporting and document retention. The award carries standard grant conditions and will be executed only after the agreement is signed.
Supervisor Hart, whose district includes the project area, said he has worked with the revitalization committee and moved for the conditional award. The motion passed on a voice vote of the five members present.
