Board approves 3% salary increases for teachers, classified staff and nonrepresented employees

The Carmel Unified School District Board of Education approved a series of salary actions that provide a 3% increase for employees across bargaining units and for nonrepresented staff.
Chief Human Resources Officer Craig Chavez presented three related agenda items: a tentative agreement with the Associated Carmel Teachers (ACT), a tentative agreement with California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter 190, and a separate 3% increase for nonrepresented employees. Chavez told the board the ACT and CSEA increases apply to their respective salary schedules for 2024–25; the ACT increase is retroactive to July 1, 2024. The ACT agreement listed a financial impact for that bargaining unit in the packet.
For CSEA, the board-approved tentative agreement includes a duration clause setting the agreement term from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2027; wage reopeners and health-and-welfare reopeners are retained in the parties' bargaining calendar while other articles remain closed for the first year. The CSEA presentation noted the district and CSEA agreed to set the successor-duration and specific reopener rules.
Board members offered brief remarks thanking negotiators. ACT president Elizabeth Marsh thanked district and bargaining teams for their work and noted the negotiations had required creativity and patience. There were no public comments on the items.
The board approved each motion by roll call vote. The record shows Board President Jason Romanzi, Board Clerk Jake Odello, Board Member Sarah Hines and Board Member Rita Patel voted yes on each item.
