Planning commission posts community profile draft; council urges joint work sessions

Pocomoke City staff and members of the Planning and Zoning Commission told the council that the community-profile draft of the city's comprehensive plan is now posted on the city website and Facebook page for public review.
City Manager John Barkley and planning-commission members described the community-profile section as containing 2020 Census data on socioeconomics, demographics and other baseline information. Commission members asked for joint work sessions with council so the commission can get council input before the plan reaches the council for formal consideration.
A planning-commission member recommended the commission hold work sessions with the council and mayor "to give their thoughts on each of the sections of the comprehensive planning document," and warned that some weaknesses in the draft need council input to address before formal adoption. One commissioner said the next planning-commission meeting would likely include the comprehensive plan draft for review.
Council members raised a question about whether legal notices for planning-commission public hearings had been posted in the required timeframe; one council member asked staff to follow up and check the posting status.
Staff encouraged citizens, businesses and nonprofit organizations to review the posted community-profile draft and provide feedback; the commission said additional public engagement and work sessions are expected before the plan comes to council for action.
