Umatilla County’s corrections division requested and received approval to purchase a KeyTrak electronic key management system after repeated jail inspection recommendations to replace a paper shadow‑board and sign‑out sheet.
Dustin Erickson, corrections division, said inspectors recommended upgrading the key tracking system. He and staff evaluated several vendors and selected KeyTrak because traditional systems did not accommodate the larger Folger keys used in the jail and because KeyTrak's steel fobs and cylinders appeared more durable. Erickson said the system offers permission settings, date/time stamps and photo capture when keys are checked out and can alert supervisors when keys are not returned on time.
Erickson said negotiated pricing brought the KeyTrak system to just under $10,000, avoiding a lower‑priced system that would have required a $150 monthly subscription. He told commissioners the system will be located in the control room and administered by corrections leadership (administrator, captain Franks and sergeants) as super users; staff will decide whether to enroll by thumbprint or use a PIN/pen method to accommodate shift schedules.
Commissioners praised the upgrade. The board moved and seconded approval and approved the purchase by voice vote.
