Committee unanimously adopts resolution recognizing National Police Week and honors fallen officer

The House Judiciary Committee unanimously adopted House Resolution 48, a ceremonial resolution recognizing the week of May 11–17, 2025 as National Police Week and designating May 15, 2025 as Peace Officers Day in the Commonwealth.
Committee counsel provided a brief description of the resolution. Chairman Kaufman and other members took time during the agenda to acknowledge and extend condolences to the family and department of West York Borough Police Officer Duarte, who was killed in the line of duty on Feb. 22 while responding to an active-shooter and hostage situation at UPMC Memorial Hospital.
Representative Klunk offered remarks praising Officer Duarte’s sacrifice, noting the response in York County and nationwide expressions of support. “We lost one of the best of us,” Klunk said, and she urged members to support the resolution.
The committee recorded unanimous support for House Resolution 48 and reported it as committed to the speaker.
