The staff presentation said the project will be constructed in phases from Main to Kent, then through the truck-dock area and around to Johnson, and that on parts of the corridor there is an existing concrete pavement 8 to 14 inches thick; city crews will widen those concrete bases to a full 24-foot width and place an asphalt surface over them. The staff member noted, “The project is actually bidding in Springfield on Friday,” and described the sidewalk locations as following the east side of the street from Main and then switching to the west side for the final block near Bronson, with crosswalks at the transition.
According to the presentation, approximately $750,000 of the project funding came from congressional-directed funds identified as from Darren Lippert's office. Staff said the state pays project bills and that the city may not receive invoices until construction is complete; on previous projects the city was not billed until 2026. The presentation did not specify the city's total share or a final construction schedule beyond the bid date.
