Council gets updates on Brazier Bayou dredging, drainage projects and Bay Vista well

City staff briefed the Biloxi City Council on several infrastructure projects at the March 17 meeting, including the Brazier Bayou dredging contract, drainage work at Malthus Landing and preconstruction timing for the Bay Vista water-well project.

Staff said the Brazier Bayou dredging contract was expected to be awarded that night; once the bidder signs and returns bonds and insurance the city will issue a notice to proceed. "Once we get once it gets awarded tonight, Rachel will send out the contracts. They have 30 days to execute their contracts, get their bonds and all back to us. At that point, that's when we'll issue the notice to proceed," a staff member said.

The drainage repair at Malthus Landing was described as high on the public-works queue and listed among the top 10 planned projects; staff said crews would move to it after current work on Atkinson Road and as emergency priorities allow. Councilmembers also asked about sidewalks on Bridal Road, Brazier Road and Lamy Street; staff said the engineering department would prepare an assessment and cost estimate and that any sidewalk program would likely be multiyear.

On the Bay Vista water-well project, staff said the preconstruction meeting was being scheduled and that equipment should appear on site within weeks to a month after preconstruction activity.

Councilmembers thanked staff for the updates and said they would follow up with state and federal contacts, particularly for projects that depend on outside funding. No formal vote was taken on these project updates during the meeting.
