Redevelopment commission approves another tax-credit submission for Durban Plaza, to pursue alternative development ideas

The Lawrenceburg Redevelopment Commission voted to authorize submitting another application for housing tax credits for Durban Plaza and asked staff to pursue development alternatives, the commission decided at its March 10, 2025 meeting.
Executive Director Bridal Messmore told commissioners the city, the redevelopment commission and a private developer would be partners on any Durban Plaza project, and she recommended a parallel approach of reapplying for tax credits while soliciting other development ideas. "So I'm gonna recommend is this evening is that we submit one more time for tax credit housing on that property. But in addition to that, I will be seeking development ideas in the event that it does not succeed," Messmore said.
Messmore said she has already spoken informally with one developer and that the commission would again work with Flairie and Collins on the application and related work. Commissioners moved and seconded the action and voted in favor; the chair announced the motion passed.
The commission did not adopt a final development plan at the meeting; Messmore said the commission and the city council would act as partners and that project details and financing would be developed and brought back to the commission for further decisions.
