Board authorizes purchase orders for household hazardous waste collection supplies; three contractor bids taken under advisement

Hancock County supervisors on Feb. 18 authorized the purchasing clerk to issue purchase orders for supplies and services for an upcoming household hazardous waste collection day and later took vendor bids under advisement.

The board approved a motion permitting the purchasing clerk to write purchase orders for event shirts, printed materials, directional signage, roll-off containers, landfill disposal fees, personal protective equipment, rental equipment and requests for volunteers. The supervisors were told those items are budgeted; the motion passed 5–0.

Later in the meeting procurement staff read received bids for hazardous-waste and e-waste handling. Bids included a 25‑cent-per-pound proposal from Magnolia Data Solutions (event minimum $2,500), a 20‑cent-per-pound bid from NexTech Operations (event minimum $1,500) and layered pricing from Northward Environmental Services with line‑item per‑pound and per‑item costs for categories such as aerosols, antifreeze, pesticides, mercury-containing items and bulk paint. Complete Environmental Response also submitted a proposal with per-event and per-item pricing. The board voted to take the bids under advisement; no vendor award was made on Feb. 18.

The immediate purchase-authority vote lets staff secure event supplies while staff evaluates hazardous-waste vendor proposals and returns with a recommendation.
