Resident removed from Bertrand Sewer District, jurors vote to reimburse monthly charges dating to October 2024

At the March 12 regular meeting the Assumption Parish Police Jury moved to remove 5447 Highway 1 from the Bertrand Sewer District and to reimburse the occupant for sewer charges billed since October 2024.

Resident Rose Cambria addressed the jury during a public comment segment, saying she had been charged roughly $33 per month despite not being physically connected to the sewer line on Highway 1. Cambria said a septic tank exists on her property and that there was no pipe running from her property frontage to the district's sewer main. Parish staff and jurors confirmed field probes and as‑built drawings do not show a completed service connection for that parcel and noted the proposed line on design maps never had corresponding excavation evidence.

Juror Carter moved to remove the parcel (5447 Highway 1) from the Bertrand Sewer District and to reimburse the resident for sewer charges incurred beginning October 2024; Juror Pineville seconded the motion. The jury voted to approve the removal and reimbursement and staff were asked to obtain the correct mailing address from the resident so the reimbursement check can be issued.

Ending Parish staff were instructed to inform the district operator and to follow the jury's direction to exclude the property from the sewer district and process reimbursement.
