School committee approves FY25 Massachusetts School Building Authority submissions for 12 projects

Superintendent and facilities staff said the district applied for all projects for which it met MSBA eligibility. The submissions included core‑program statements for potential replacement or co‑location at Alice Beale and Washington schools and a Kensington application, as well as eligibility submissions for roofing work (Bowen, Brunton, Dorman, Van Sickle), and heating, ventilation and heat pump projects (Liberty, Mary Lynch, South End Middle, Zanetti, Talmadge). Staff said the MSBA had recently revised some eligibility thresholds, allowing additional roof projects to qualify.
The committee voted on each SOI in sequence and approved the full list by roll call. During the meeting staff caught an erroneous line in one agenda entry for Talmadge Elementary (the agenda initially listed roofing but the intended submission was HVAC/heating and ventilation); the committee voted to correct the Talmadge SOI text and re‑approved the corrected item.
Facilities staff said the district intends to pursue MSBA funding where eligibility criteria are met and emphasized the work is preliminary — submitting an SOI does not guarantee MSBA acceptance, a grant or a commitment to file a full application. The committee thanked facilities staff for their work on a broad slate of projects.
